In a world where business and education transcend borders, gaining international exposure is more crucial than ever. With this vision, UPES School of Business organised an enriching Global Immersion for its students to the United Kingdom (UK), offering students a unique opportunity to engage with global academic institutions, industry leaders, and cultural experiences. This meticulously curated trip aimed to provide invaluable insights into international business dynamics, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Says Rahul Nainwal, Director, UPES School of Business, “The UK immersion was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by exposing students to real-world business environments. The objective was to foster an understanding of global economies, diverse business models, and cutting-edge technological advancements shaping industries worldwide. Students had the chance to visit prestigious universities, attend insightful lectures, and interact with industry experts who provided a firsthand perspective on business and management trends.”

Learning from the Best

One of the most enriching aspects of the trip was the opportunity to attend multiple isightful sessions at some of the world's top institutions.

University of Edinburgh Business School

At the University of Edinburgh, students were welcomed by Michael Chambers, Student Recruitment Manager, who provided an in-depth overview of the university’s academic offerings and student life. A notable highlight was the presence of two student ambassadors- Anugrah Singh Pundir from India, and Jessica Cole from the United States, who shared their experiences and perspectives on studying in an international environment and insights on future career prospects.

From business and management to finance and entrepreneurship, students gained valuable insights into the diverse academic opportunities available at the university. The visit also included a tour of the Edinburgh Business School, where the blend of historic architecture and modern facilities created an inspiring learning atmosphere.

London Business School

As part of London Business School’s Summit Series, students attended an engaging session with Joel Perlman, Co-Founder of OakNorth, a fintech company revolutionising business lending. Joel shared his entrepreneurial journey, which started in India, and emphasised key business strategies that have led to his success.

This session not only provided the students with valuable insights into the world of entrepreneurship and business strategy but also reinforced the importance of mindset, persistence, and adaptability in entrepreneurship. Offering students invaluable lessons to apply in their own careers

Saïd Business School Oxford University

In Oxford, students had the opportunity to attend an insightful seminar on reshaping businesses for long-term impact at Oxford Saïd Business School. The session featured distinguished speakers such as Tima Bansal (Ivey Business School), Erinch Sahan (Doughnut Economics Action Lab), and Bruno Roche (ONE Society), moderated by Professor Marya Besharov (Skoll Centre, University oxford). The discussion revolved around redefining business ‘from within’. Focusing on business missions, culture, and operations using frameworks like Doughnut Economics and the Economics of Mutuality.

Another key takeaway was the crucial role that business schools play in shaping the future of the corporate world. The session highlighted how effective managers and entrepreneurs require proper guidance, structured learning, and exposure to innovative ideas; something that B-schools provide through cutting-edge research, industry collaboration, and leadership development programs. In today’s dynamic environment, where businesses must navigate social, economic, and environmental complexities, Business schools are instrumental in preparing future leaders to drive meaningful change.

Mini Plant, Oxford

While at Oxford, Students also had the opportunity to visit to the iconic MINI plant in Oxford provided students with an up-close look at automotive manufacturing at its finest. The tour began with a deep dive into MINI’s rich history, followed by an exclusive walk-through of the original factory, where cutting-edge automation meets skilled craftsmanship.

MINI’s Oxford facility is worth over £1 billion and is a major player in the UK automotive industry. The plant produces approximately 600 cars per day, with a strong emphasis on customisation and sustainability. MINI’s significant investment in solar energy and carbon footprint reduction showcases its commitment to environmental sustainability.

Alumni Meet

Beyond the insightful sessions at some of the world's most prestigious institutions, one more standout moment of our UK immersion was the opportunity to link up with Mr. Ashish Bhadola, a proud UPES alumnus and, currently, Vice President at Markets & Markets. Meeting someone who once walked the same halls as us but now thrives at the top of the consulting world was truly inspiring.

Our conversation with him was nothing short of an eye-opener, especially for those aspiring to step into the world of consulting. He broke down the real-world dynamics of a consulting firm, shedding light on what it truly takes to be a star consultant in today’s competitive landscape. The session was a goldmine of practical knowledge, proving that learning doesn’t happen in just the classrooms, it happens through meaningful conversations with those who’ve been there and done that.

Beyond the Classroom

The international immersion was not just about business and academics; it was also about experiencing the cultural vibrancy of the UK. Exploring historic landmarks, engaging with diverse communities, and navigating new environments contributed to students' personal growth and global outlook.

From touring iconic locations in London and Edinburgh to networking with professionals and peers, the trip provided a holistic learning experience. Many students shared that stepping out of their comfort zones and immersing themselves in a new culture helped them build confidence and adaptability key skills for success in today’s interconnected world.
